Christians have the unique opportunity to join with Christ to engage the world in the most exciting journey of life -- to live by imitating Christ. For two millennia, the world has posed the most challenging questions: Who are the Christians and who are they with? How do they live their faith, and how does their faith influence the rest of the world? For Christians today's challenge is how to make the world believe in the redeeming message of the gospel of Jesus Christ in a practical way.
For almost everything in life we want an explanation of how things work. And so it is for Christianity. The reality is that there is no precise theoretical clear explanation that will define what it means to be a Christian. Of course there is a reason, and the reason is that Christianity is not defined by words, but by the actions of those who are followers of Christ. Christians have to realize that the world demands practical evidences of what spiritual life is. If they see that it makes any difference in our lives, certainly they will consider it for themselves.
Two weeks ago a young Christian was giving her testimony in my Bible class, of how her husband responded after he watched her handling a family crisis with patience and grace. Here is what he said to her "Where is the other woman I knew. You are not the same; you are really changing, and we are benefiting from it". It is evident that this new Christian husband illustrates the point. Even though he never assembles with us, he is seeing the influence of Christ in his wife and it is beginning to influence him too. Christians can make a difference in this world!
