Greeting From the Strachan Family
posted by DW on 06/01/2005

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and some time with family.  This will be a very full report as there has been so much activity these past weeks. God continues to bless the work here richly and we are blessed to involved in an amazing work.

Classes:
The classes are going well and continued up until the 1st week in July.  During the summer weeks we have a different program for the youth. We continue to be encouraged by the teens that meet on Saturday nights. The atmosphere during the class and the kids desire to be together is truly amazing.

Harding Campaign:
The campaign this year was excellent!  We were able to present a focused “Christian” program to every school in Peterhead. The influence and good that was done during these times is immeasurable! For the first time we were able to meet and present a program in the High School also – again the response was great! Towards the end of the first week we had an open day (mini-VBS) with the children. It was a great day with over 60 kids there. In the morning we sent the kids out on a scavenger hunt based on the armour of God. They were given disposable camera’s to take group shots as they found all six pieces of the armour.

In the evening we had a parents night for the families of the children. We had over 40 family members of the children there – It was a good night together! We ran a power point show of the morning’s scavenger hunt photos and I taught a lesson on the armour of God at the same time. We also had small groups with the youth to get to know the students better and for the students to share Christ. The students had opportunity to have supper in the homes of the families we are working with. Both the students and the families had a great time together and much good was done. On the last Saturday of the campaign we organised a picnic and invited all the parents and children to come. We had a brilliant time with over 140 people at the picnic!

Vacation Bible School:
We had our 2nd annual VBS during the 2nd week of July. Last year we averaged 30 –35 kids daily, but this year we had around 50 kids each day, with around 10 of them being newcomers. We continued the theme of the Armour of God for the week, and it was a great blessing to all involved. We had the additional blessing of having Kim Sneed & Susan Rice from the South Macarthur Church in Irving, TX here to see our work, and help with the VBS.

On the final day we had a small presentation to let the kids know how proud we were of them and their excellent participation throughout the week. We invited the parents, and were thrilled to see so many come and be a part of this special occasion. Some mothers expressed afterwards how they were moved to tears while listening to the children singing “Prince of Peace”.

Pan European Lectureships:
As most of you are aware, these were held in Edinburgh, Scotland this year. It was our privilege to be at the lectures and enjoy a time of encouragement and good teaching. It was especially good to hear about the many good things that are happening on the mission field in Europe, and to be assured that God is still working through dedicated men and women who love His Kingdom. It was good to have an opportunity to meet with a few of the College Church Elders and spend some time with dear friends who continue to spur us on to serve God.

Preparation For Camp:
It has been a busy summer and this last week has been nice to spend much of the time in preparation for teaching at camp. I look forward to teaching the16 year old class. The theme for camp is “ All things by Him, for Him”. This theme focuses on God’s creative works and through the lessons we will try to instil in the youth a deeper appreciation of God as creator. We have a total of 31 children going to Church camp from Peterhead this year, most of these being from un-churched homes, and we are sure they will be richly blessed.

Special request:
During these past weeks the Church here in Peterhead have been facing some challenges. As most of you know we recently moved into a new building, and as most of you have probably experienced, these can be trying times. There have been many opinions expressed that may not come from the most Godly of motives and a great deal of hurt has been the result. We are doing our best to stay focused and continue to minister as we believe God would desire, but we ask for your continued support and prayers during this trying time.

Keeping The Best Till Last:
How do you begin to express the joy of a mum and dad witnessing the new birth of their child. Amy committed her life to Christ on Friday the 9th of July. Thursday night while we were discussing becoming a Christian with Beth, we noticed Amy sitting in tears. It became obvious that Amy was cut to the heart and after a time of study and prayer Amy decided She could no longer live without Christ.

Closing:
As we prepare for the beginning of the regular kid’s classes again please keep our efforts before our heavenly Father as we try bring their young lives into closer contact with Him.  As ever, thank you for your help and support to this point, may God continue to bless our efforts together as we strive to serve Him.
